Though such development in Arunachal politics is not new, but BJP has never imagined that a leader of Rijiju’s stature would betray the party which had nurtured his political career in a meaningful way, Rao said while addressing the media persons today.
We never thought Rijiju would emerge such a big gambler setting an example in politics; No one would betray in such a way, Rao said and alleged that Rijiju’s main intention is to gain ‘power, finance and fame’ which was not possible for him while in saffron party.
Discarding the Congress’ claim that 99% of BJP swing in the state ends with the joining of Rijiju to Congress, Rao said, ''people still repose faith on the BJP and they will give a befitting reply in the coming election. People still remember what Rijiju had said in last Parliamentary election and they will prove whether Rijiju’s credibility will increase or decrease by joining the Congress.
Desertion of Rijiju will not affect the party’s poll prospect in any way since the people of the state had already extended their moral support in last parliamentary election and party cadres and workers are fully prepared for electoral battle in the Assembly election with renewed zeal.
Announcing that the party would come out with the second list of poll candidate within a few days, he said it would field candidates in 40 seats and extend support to independent candidates in remaining 20 during Assembly elections. Several election committees had already been constituted to give a befitting fight in the state poll, he added.
When asked whether the party had been marginalised both in national and state levels with the desertion of various top ranking leaders including Rijiju, Rao said, Rijiju’s resignation has no link with national party scenario, and such development would not create any impact in the party at any level.
Apang welcomes Kiren’s joining
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang has welcomed the joining of Kiren Rijiju into the Congress party.
‘I hope with the joining of Rijiju to the Congress fold, the party will be strengthened manifold and more so when the assembly elections are just around the corner. Kiren’s leadership quality and political acumen are well known and I hope that he will provide the same leadership to the young brigade of the party’ said that veteran Congress leader.
The Congress party aspires to have young political leaders like Rijiju and his joining has brought into the Congress party his wide and rich experiences of the organization capability which the Congress party can reap the benefit to the fullest, he added.
The former chief minister thanked the AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary AICC Rahul Gandhi for whose persuasive efforts have made it possible the joining of Rijiju to the INC fold.
ATSU calls off dharna to “avert confrontation”
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Arunachal Tribal Students' Union (ATSU) informed that it has called off the proposed peaceful dharna to avert any confrontation with the state arm forces.
ATSU does not have any personal enmities with ministers Newlai Tinkatara and C.C Singhpo, it said while adding that “we are spear heading the movement to save Arunachal Pradesh from activities carried out for their their vested interest”
The declaration of our peaceful dharna as illegal by DC has curtailed and murdered the democratic essence; the Union said adding that the order is nothing but to protect the two Ministers who committed crime against the state by giving an undertaking to the extremists.
SFRI’s bamboo housing workshop
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: A three days long training workshop on bamboo based community buildings
and a large span structure is in progress at State Forest Research Institute, Itanagar
from August 24-
The training workshop is being organized by Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre, Guwahati in association with Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) and SFRI, Itanagar.
Executive Director of BMTPC Dr. S K Agarwal through a PowerPoint presentation highlighted the suitability of bamboo for use as building material in place of woods, bricks and cement and highlighted about the importance of Bamboo houses in earth quake prone areas.
Director, SFRI G. N. Sinha said that in the time of globally prevalent economic meltdown and stock falling down, the construction industry is not able to cope with the situation; therefore it is looking forward for alternative solutions so as to provide housing at an affordable price which are sustainable and in harmony with nature. The application of bamboo as a substitute has been proved very widely but the technology is required to reach common people, he added.
He further said that more use of bamboo in construction industry will also save our precious forests and thereby helping in reducing green house gases.
Secretary, PHE Tomi Ete highlighted the importance of bamboo as a construction material. He stated that bamboo has already been proved to be possessing superior construction properties like tensile strength, torsion strength and durability.
He further said that CBTC, BMTPC and SFRI have to play the vital role in disseminating the idea of bamboo technology in construction industry to the common people.

Mandal of CBTC are imparting training on various aspects of making bamboo based community building and large span structures using bamboo, Bamboo as building materials, BMTPC’s initiatives and policies, bamboo in Arunachal Pradesh and their utility, potential of bamboo in tourism promotion, bamboo based community building and CBTC’s initiatives and treatment and preservation on bamboo. In the practical demonstration, harvesting and preservation techniques of bamboo, selection of bamboo for construction, different types of jointing systems, basic plinth preparation techniques and bamboo truss construction and joinery system would be demonstrated.
The participants included delegates from entrepreneurs, farmers, officials from various government departments and officials from SFRI.
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: Block Youth Convention, 27 Liromoba Assembly Constituency was organized at Yomcha today.
More than 1500 youths and 30 ASMs from Kamba, Darak, Yomcha and Liromoba attended the convention.
Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion former Minister Lijum Ronya highlighted the reasons for his joining the Indian National Congress and also appreciated Home Minister Jarbom Gamlin for his commendable job to uplift the people of the area and the state.

Byaling calls for large scale tea and coffee cultivation
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: The Minister Industries Tanga Byaling has advocated for cultivation of tea in large scale to raise the state’s economy and called upon the people to take up tea and coffee cultivation. He said that the tea produces in the state are in high demand in the market outside state for its ethnic taste and flavour and called for promoting tea production for sustainable economic development of the state, besides generating revenue from its marketing.

GUYWA questions appointmentsin Tourism Department
ITANAGAR, Aus 25: Graduate Unemployment Youth Welfare Association, Itanagar demands cancellation of “illegal appointment of five Tourism Information Officer (TIO) and Five District Tourism Officer (DTO) vide order No. TOU (Estt) 746/2008 dated 18 August 2009”.
It further demanded suspension of Director Tourism AK Singh while informing that this current financial year Singh has already appointed 15 Group C and D post, 5 TIOs, 2 DTOs and 5 Peons without following recruitment rule.
It appealed AAPSU, ANSU and AAPWU also to take necessary steps and demanded further an inquiry committee for immediate suspension of AK Singh from his post.
It further appealed the state government to look in to the matter and suggested that the 50% of the post should be recruited through APCS and another 50% through departmental interview.

The other day, there was a Notice by the Capital City Administration which was rather interesting on Boli, a type of gambling.
“It is understood that the modus operandi of the game is that a group of women contributes equal sum of money in common pool and then the member who makes ‘boli’ of least amount of money to take home from this pool becomes lowest bidder for that day. That sum of money is given to her and balance amount is shared amongst the group equally. On subsequent meetings, the group members again contribute same sum of money each including previous bidders. Previous bidders are, however, not allowed to participate in bidding but they share balance money left after bidding”.
The game apparently is the latest favorite pass time of some sections of society. Most players seem to be women who have taken it up on serious note. Boli or Betting is all about money and with money. The pool differs with the lowest being in hundreds. There are no upward limits. This fact can be gauged from the fact that on most days Automated Teller Machines are empty!
Now gamble is not something new in an idle society like ours. Some play cards, some caroms and snookers. All involves money. Some are legalized by the administration itself.
Jhandi Munda or popularly known as dice is one such. At least for three days, during the festival of lights, stalls are put up and play is on nonstop. Administration makes some quick money, so does the organizers. Some players do make money but most of them go back home empty handed.
Gambling is a personal choice, at least in this state. Given the fact that we don’t have much to do in our free time, we do indulge in certain stuff which is not necessarily productive.
Entertainment is something still alien and there are not many choices for average working class citizens.
It might not be for all but playing Cards is favorite pass time of many including government officers who make good use of it during weekends. Here too, money is not less. There is no limit. From Rs 10 to a lac!
Irrespective of the fact whether government legalizes gambling or not, gambling of all sorts cutting across all age group will continue to be there.
Administration hands out a notice at a particular type of gambling, it is about time it looks at the whole unorganized gambling sector. The racket is huge with many takers.

School girl physically assaulted
ITANAGAR, Aug 25: A 13 year old school girl of Government Middle School, Bokam under Palin in Kurung Kumey was allegedly raped by her teacher on July 31. A case has been registered against one Khoda Taram, an Assistant teacher under SSA currently working at Government Middle School Bokam under section 376 (2) (F) IPC on Aug 11.
The guardian of the victim said that despite all necessary evidence and documents no serious action have been taken till date by the authorities. The victim was allegedly physically assaulted when she was sleeping with the daughter of the teacher who is a school mate of hers.
The guardian called on the Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission to initiate action against the alleged.

ITANAGAR: The Regional News Unit of All India Radio, Itanagar is starting Hindi and English news bulletins from Aug 27. The Member (Personnel), Prasar Bharti, V.Shivakumar and Director General (News), All India Radio, Mohan Chandak will launch these bulletins in a function at Itanagar on Thursday. The Hindi bulletin will be broadcast at 7.45 PM daily and English bulletin at 7.50 PM daily. These bulletins will also be relayed by AIR, Tawang, Tezu, Pasighat and Ziro. Though Arunachal is called the Land of the Rising Sun but living standard of its people is deeply in gloom till now in comparison with its immediate neighbouring states.
Our elected leaders are busy either in shifting their party or resigning from the coveted posts like MLA instead of keeping their promise made to the general people at the time of election.
By looking all these, we can say, our elected representatives are neither visionary nor have principle of being leaders, rather they are obviously immature and opportunists.
As a citizen of the largest democratic country, I sincerely appeal all the voters of the young state to choose right and accountable leaders and elect them as their representatives in the ensuing assembly election instead of selling their precious votes which is not only a sign of corruption but also a kind of dreadful curse in the society. Dream shattered
Madam,
Politics in Arunachal is as fickle as fickle can be. Leaders are no exception. But of late, there is a whiff of fresh air in Arunachal politics in the form of Kiren Rijiju.
Last parliamentary election showed how a leader with fresh ideas and great enthusiasm could win over the youth and old alike. Notwithstanding of their political affiliation, many Anchal Samity Members, Zila Parishad Members and even MLAs supported Rijiju, covertly or openly. It almost looked like a wave of change in people’s mentality. Even though he was defeated, the public had high hopes of him. Especially in upcoming assembly elections, they hoped and prayed for a change against the corrupt regime.
Rijiju shattered their dreams and aspirations. He just turned out to be yet another opportunistic public leader, without any integrity and character (the very public image he vehemently advertised and projected). One thing that he will never achieve is the place of greatness in the galaxy of Dying Ering, Tomo Riba and present Gegong Apang. He just missed this opportunity by shifting his allegiance like anybody else. He could have just persevered and swam against the tide in the sea of corrupt Congress regime like an alive and kicking Big Fish to realize the dream of Golden Arunachal which he so much emphasized in this parliamentary election. Alas! Some things never change in Arunachal politics! Let’s mourn the untimely death of yet another apparently promising and charismatic leader!

The BJP seems to be rotting so fast that its worms are crawling out. Now that his ship is sinking, Kiren Rijiju has jumped off and is clinging on to his once biggest foe, the Congress. He has hurriedly deserted his one and only party, which by his own claims made him who he is today.
He fought the just concluded parliamentary elections unsuccessfully, berating the programmes and policies of the Congress and in some cases even questioning the present leadership of the Congress in the state. Why, he left the very party that projected him as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections.
We are eagerly awaiting his next sound bite considering he was quite the darling of the media.
Oh! The indignation we the people must face at the words of such men. Words laced with deceit and masked with righteousness. But he, we’re sure, sleeps soundly.
